Palestinian Legal Community
The Women in Law Program (WILpower) is working to support the implementation of professional development activities for young female legal practitioners and law students in the Palestinian legal community. To this end, WILpower is expanding its network in the West Bank by reaching out to young female law students and legal practitioners to engage in peer mentorship as well as local and regional legal training activities.
At the local level, these activities will include: peer-led legal research, writing and oral argumentation workshops in at least six (6) West Bank cities and collaborative training activities between Palestinian female legal practitioners and their colleagues in the law enforcement and media sectors to increase capacity and understanding within and between these three influential sectors. With the hard work and support of a diverse core team of professional female attorneys and law students from six West Bank cities, WILpower participants will look at ways in which to empower other young women in the legal sector and assist those working in legal reform, community development, social work, human rights and women’s issues in the Palestinian community.
In response to local challenges to keep young women active in the legal sector, WILpower seeks to support the efforts of the Palestinian legal community as a whole, offering opportunities for professional growth and development through several workshops to be held in Ramallah and other strategic locations. These workshops will focus on multiple topics - including but not limited to - English and Arabic legal research and writing, oral argumentation skill building, leadership training for young attorneys, as well as organizational management training applicable for start-up law firms. In addition, other online legal skill-building, social networking, and professional resource support activities will be offered at the local and regional levels.
WILpower has conducted local trainings in the Palestinian legal community - in Ramallah, Jerusalem, Jenin, Bethlehem, and Nablus. The following are some photos of past local activities:
