Lebanese Legal Community
The Women in Law Program in Lebanon (WILpower Lebanon) is partnering with El Derbas Law Offices to assist in the establishment of a nationally recognized WILpower Lebanon NGO. WILpower Lebanon will work to build and maintain an inclusive legal professional development network for resource sharing and skills-training among young female law students and legal practitioners in both the north and south of the country. WILpower Lebanon seeks to improve access to quality legal resources through strategic collaborative partnerships, provide quality training and legal services, and grow awareness of substantive legal issues among young students and legal professionals.
With the support of a core group of professional female attorneys, WILpower Lebanon will look at ways in which to build a culture of mentorship and knowledge-sharing that empowers other young women in the legal sector and assists those working towards legal reform, community development, social work, human rights and women’s issues in Lebanon.
In the last two decades, the Lebanese society has been very active through various public and private sector organizational efforts, and significant advances have been made on critical social issues related to women and equality. However, the Lebanese legal community is still striving to create a prosperous environment for the professional development of female legal practitioners.
As such, WILpower Lebanon will seek to support the efforts of the Lebanese legal community as a whole, offering opportunities for professional growth and development through practical training workshops and speaker events to be held in Beirut and Tripoli. These workshops will focus on key topic areas - including but not limited to - English and Arabic legal research and writing, oral argumentation skill building, leadership training for young attorneys, and organizational management skills training.
In addition, WILpower Lebanon will work with their colleagues in the Gulf and Palestinian legal communities, as well as support online legal skills building through monthly virtual classroom trainings, engage in social networking, and provide professional resource support and mentorship.
WILpower has conducted numerous workshops in Lebanon - in both Beirut and Tripoli. The following are some photos of past local activities:
